구글 맵스에서 온종일 무언가를 찾아 헤매는 사람이 있을 거란 생각을 하면 참 재미있다. 어쩌면 사진 기자가 특종을 찾아 나서듯이 구글 맵스에서 특종을 발견하기 위해 여기저기 뒤져보는 구글 '맵파라치'가 있을지도 모르겠다.
호주에서 Creative Director로 일하는 Rhett Dashwood라는 사람이 자신의 자투리 시간을 활용해 구글 맵스에서 로마자 알파벳 A-Z와 닮은 지형과 건물 모양을 찾아냈다. 2008년 10월부터 시작해 최근에 작업을 마쳤다고 한다. 제목은 구글 맵스 타이포그래피(Google Maps Typography).
도대체 이런 걸 찾으려면 구글 맵스를 얼마나 눈이 빠지게 들여다봐야 하는지 나중에 한번 실험해봐야겠다. 한국식으로 다음 스카이뷰에서 한글 자모와 닮은 우리나라 지형지물을 찾아볼까 하는 생각이다. 둥글둥글한 로마자 알파벳과는 달라서 한글 자모는 쉽게 찾을지도.
